JACOB LANDAU INSTITUTE
after Landauís death in November 2001, the Jacob Landau Institute (JLI)
was created and subsequently gained non-profit status. Its primary purpose
is preserving his legacy and extending his unique philosophy of education
into our schools at all levels, as well as supporting and nurturing individual
of Landauís legacy and serving as a conduit for others to experience his
work and artistic vision are vital elements of a mission that we hope will
serve as a model for other artists to draw on and build upon. Too often
significant artists and their estates have lacked the resources to maintain
their legacies, thereby allowing them to devolve and erode with the passage
of time, robbing our society of important cultural and artistic philosophies,
history, and artifacts.
in Roosevelt, NJ, the JLI strives to leverage that presence to enrich the
artistic communities of both the local and the greater New Jersey areas.
We have established two major cooperative agreements, one with Drew University
in Madison to permanently house the Jacob Landau Archives and a complete
collection of his extensive book illustrations; and the other with Monmouth
University in West Long Branch to create education programs that have far-reaching
benefits for the growing artistic community and general population of Monmouth
County, and beyond.
